HOW KTL AND CORNERSTONE ARE DRIVING INNOVATION IN TELCO

KTL and Cornerstone are redefining telco innovation through digitalisation, integrating AI, advancing sustainable practices and driving 5G evolution

As the telecommunications sector continues to transform with the evolution of 5G networks, strategic partnerships have become essential for companies to stay competitive. Demand is increasing for in-building coverage solutions and growing pressure to adopt sustainable practices.

“We essentially conduct everything so there’s less for the client to be concerned about and everything’s clear and concise,” explains Paul Korzeniewski, UK Business and Development Director for KTL. “KTL provides end-to-end services across the telecommunications and power industries, whether on scale or bespoke to whatever the client’s requirements are.”

Now, the industry faces challenges including digital infrastructure modernisation, reducing carbon footprints and implementing AI solutions that enhance operational efficiency.

This approach allows clients to work with a single supplier rather than engaging multiple companies for efficiency.

A partnership based on mutual innovation

Facing these challenges, KTL, a leading provider of fast, effective and reliable engineering services in the UK and Ireland, has strengthened its position through a partnership with mobile and digital infrastructure provider Cornerstone. What’s unique about this collaboration, which began in late 2023, is its shift from traditional client-supplier dynamics towards a more innovative and collaborative approach.

Cornerstone is the UK’s leading mobile infrastructure provider, managing over 15,700 sites nationwide as well as driving innovation in telecoms through sustainable, scalable networks.

“One exciting thing about Cornerstone is that they engage with us as a partner and not just a supplier for ideas and ways we can work better,” says Paul.

KTL’s holistic approach

KTL serves clients from major mobile network operators to private organisations with specific coverage requirements.

Unlike conventional relationships where suppliers simply execute

requirements, the Cornerstone partnership encourages shared innovation.

AI is another focus that has become increasingly important in KTL’s operations, particularly for site surveys.

“Cornerstone instruct work to us, but at the same time empower us to look at innovative ways to improve the process,” he continues.

Now, the company uses drone and camera technology with AI to automatically identify installed equipment, which “removes hours of human intervention at the back end of the survey,” Paul continues.

A primary focus, Paul explains, is digitising network infrastructure, which promises significant efficiency improvements.

Looking ahead, KTL and Cornerstone aim to capitalise on emerging telco opportunities, including the 5G evolution, in-building solutions and green energy integration. “Collectively we can come up with some of the best offerings in the industry for bespoke coverage solutions, EV or green power initiatives,” Paul concludes.

“They’re completely trying to digitise their network, which makes it much more efficient and reduces site visits and manual interventions,” he says.

Sustainability and advanced technology

KTL has demonstrated environmental responsibility as key to its strategy by reducing its carbon footprint by over 500 tonnes last year – through initiatives including solar panels at our head office, promoting an anti-idling campaign for site staff and introducing electric vehicles.

The company has also deployed a trial green energy mobile telco site “powered by wind turbine, solar panels and battery backup,” Paul says.
