WHAT IS RCS ?
Rich Communication Services ( RCS ) chats are a messaging protocol that offers an enhanced messaging experience compared to traditional text messaging .
According to GSM Association ( GSMA ), the organisation that develops the RCS standard , aims to provide users with a more interactive and engaging messaging experience directly through their native messaging apps .
For Apple users , texting a fellow Apple customer means seeing the blue iMessage bubble throughout a text conversation . Now , Apple is changing this so that users with their most recent iOS update can get blue message bubbles when messaging Android users as well .
At the time of writing this feature , Apple does not have E2EE in its implementation of RCS .
Currently , GSMA is working to enable end-to-end encryption ( E2EE ) on messages sent between Android and iPhone . Designed to keep personal data secure , E2EE prevents third parties , like your messaging service or cell carrier , from viewing your texts .
RCS capabilities also allow for the inclusion of verified sender information , which is designed to provide a more trustworthy customer experience .
On this , Robert says : “ The ability to interact with consumers on a more secure platform helps build customer loyalty , create meaningful connections and ultimately drive sales .”
Moving forward , RCS is expected to evolve and become more relevant within the telecommunications space . As an interoperable communication service , it is suggested that it will also adapt to emerging trends and technological advancements within the sector .
